Bakers maternal grandmother Josephine Elizabeth "Bet" Ross, had been enslaved and was whipped for refusing to marry a man chosen for her by the slave master.
She was African-American civil rights and human rights activist.
I chose this person because she was a human rights and African Activist. Ella Baker worked with multiple different organizations such as NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee).
